The CROP Walk raises awareness about hunger and is a way to show solidarity with impoverished people struggling to become self-sufficient. Each year, about 2000 communities nationwide hold a CROP Walk. Walkers collect monetary pledges to support their participation, and up to 25% of the money collected is donated to local hunger-fighting programs. The rest of the funds go to Church World Service -- a relief, development and refugee assistance agency sponsored by 35 Christian denominations in the United States. Church World Service supports a broad range of poverty-fighting programs in some 80 countries, projects such as the digging of wells in Africa and community development assistance for poor women in rural Bangladesh.

Parker’s 2007 CROP Walk, in which 21 St. Matthew’s parishioners and friends participated, raised over $5,000, and a quarter of the money raised was donated to the Parker Task Force Food Bank. THIS YEAR, PARKER’S CROP WALK WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2008, at the Cherry Creek Trail East Bank Trailhead across from Parker United Methodist Church.. Registration and fun activities begin at 8:00 a.m and the walk starts at 9:00 a.m.
