IT’S TIME FOR LOAVES AND FISHES SUNDAY!

Matt 14:16 Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."

Each summer, St. Matthew’s participates in Loaves & Fishes Sunday, a diocesan event started by the Rt. Rev. William J. Winterrode when he learned that demands on food banks in the summer are great while stores on the shelves dwindle.  For Loaves and Fishes Sunday, non-perishable food and pantry items are collected for neighboring crisis centers and food pantries.  This year, St. Matthew’s has chosen to make contributions to the Women’s Crisis Center in Castle Rock and to the Ellen L. Torres Bienvenidos Food Bank, a Colorado Diocese designated Jubilee Ministry in Denver.  Both of these centers are currently in need of assistance and have a growing client base.

Here are some ways that you can participate in Loaves and Fishes Sunday:

·  At church, pick up grocery bags to which lists of needed items will be attached, fill the bags with some or all of the needed items, and return them to the parish hall by Sunday, July 26, 2009, this year’s Loaves and Fishes Sunday.  Grocery bags with lists of needed items will be available on Sunday, July 5th through Sunday, July 19th with the collection day being Sunday, JULY 26th.   (If you are planning to be on vacation on July 26, please drop off your filled bags at the church office during the week or in the parish hall on Sunday mornings.)

·  If extra shopping doesn’t mesh well with your busy schedule but you would still like to help, you may prefer to make a monetary contribution in the form of a check (made out to St. Matthew’s with “Loaves & Fishes” in the memo line) or  grocery coupons (sold in the parish hall between and after services).

· If you are available to help deliver the collected goods to the food bank or crisis center, your assistance would certainly be welcome!

· Maybe you would like to help St. Matthew’s participation in next year’s Loaves and Fishes Sunday.

Let’s fill our parish hall with God’s grace in the form of food for others!

If you have any questions or comments, or you would like to help deliver goods to Bienvenidos or the Women’s Crisis Center, please e-mail Kandy Halstead at office@matthewinparker.com or call the St. Matthew’s parish office at (303) 841-0121.
